our journey

What started as three stores has become a franchise network spanning the UK. Here’s how we got there:

2012

First three stores

Scoffs Group was founded with the acquisition of three existing Costa Coffee locations in Buckhurst Hill, Walthamstow and Chingford. This marked the company's entry into the franchise market and established a foundation for future growth.

2013

Costa Innovation Award

We received the Costa Innovation Award, recognising our early achievements in franchise operations.

2017

Six stores later…

We expanded our portfolio by six stores, further solidifying our position as a successful franchise operator.

2018

A major leap forward

A significant expansion increased the portfolio by almost 200%, from 32 to 91 stores.

2020

Recognition by the BFA

We were shortlisted for the British Franchise Association HSBC Best In Class Multi-Unit Leader Award, a testament to our commitment to operational excellence and strategic growth.

2021

Further growth during the pandemic

Despite industry challenges, Scoffs Group continued growing, opening two new Costa Coffee stores in high-traffic locations and securing sites for future development.

sustainability at scoffs

Committed to a Greener Tomorrow

Committed to change

We continuously strive to reduce our environmental impact through sustainable practices and innovative improvements across our operations.

green initiatives

These include upgrading to low-energy, standardised equipment, installing 100% LED lighting, enhancing building insulation, and using economic, hybrid vehicles.

Doing more with less

In 2023, we reduced our energy use to 334 kWh/m²—well below the 440 kWh/m² industry benchmark—and even with 21 new stores, we halved our CO₂ emissions from 2022.

carbon neutrality

With a goal of carbon neutrality by (or before) 2035, every step we take is a move toward a greener future.

Giving Back

From creating welcoming spaces in our stores to supporting local events and sharing those simple, friendly chats, Scoffs always puts community first. A huge part of our journey with Costa Coffee is supporting the Costa Foundation, helping children and families in coffee-growing communities. Every year our teams raise incredible amounts — through in-store fundraising, marathons, skydives, and so much more.

But it doesn’t stop there. We’re proud to support charities like Macmillan and partner with initiatives that bring people in the local communities together, from the Chatty Café scheme to Sparkle UK’s men’s mental health sessions.

At Scoffs, fundraising isn’t just something we do — it’s who we are. Together with our customers, we make a difference, one cup at a time.
