A DAY IN THE LIFE AT SCOFFS
Real stories from our team about what it’s like to work at Scoffs—behind the counter, in the kitchen, and beyond.

Daniel Wyles
Payroll & Insights Manager
A Payroll & Insights Manager's day involves a variety of tasks centred around financial analysis and business operations. I start my day with a Vanilla Americano, reviewing payroll data and employee support queries to ensure accuracy and compliance. This involves checking for any discrepancies and making necessary adjustments. Next, I dive into Profit and Loss (P&L) statements, analysing revenue and expenses to identify trends and areas for improvement.
This analysis helps in making informed decisions to enhance profitability. Throughout the day, I collaborate with different departments to gather data and provide insights on labour costs. This includes evaluating workforce efficiency and suggesting strategies to optimize core financial utilization.
In addition to these tasks, I often prepare reports and presentations for management, highlighting key financial metrics and performance indicators. This plays a crucial role in strategic planning and budgeting processes, ensuring that financial goals are met, and resources are allocated effectively.
Overall, a day in the life of a Payroll & Insights Manager is a blend of data analysis, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration, all aimed at driving the company's financial success.

Harley Lay
Store Manager & Area Manager Designate for the South
No two days are the same for me! My schedule changes depending on whether I’m in-store or working on operations.
Store Days
On store days, I’m up at 4 AM—not without my first coffee, of course! I arrive by 5 AM to open the store, starting with the usual tasks: setting up the coffee station, making sure the grind and dose are just right, and arranging the cake display to look full and inviting (which I love doing!). I check orders, manage the waste file to ensure accurate stock levels, and go through day dots to keep everything fresh and organised.
For the first hour, I’m lone working, which is the perfect time to get a big chunk of our cleaning checklist done while it's quiet. Once the rest of the team arrives, the day is all about serving great coffee and creating great customer experiences—especially with our regulars, who I love chatting with. Seeing positive NPS feedback about our service always makes my day!
Operations Days
On Ops days, I shift gears. With my monthly schedule already planned, my day is all about supporting Area Managers in the South and Dawn. I carry out Costa Checks, assist with store walkthroughs to reduce Area Manager workloads, and get involved in training at all levels—from Baristas to Store Managers.
I also play a role in the hiring process, helping select the best new team members. On top of that, I’m often asked to take notes or lead investigations and disciplinaries, freeing up valuable time for our AMs.
At the core of everything I do, I aim to keep my days productive and beneficial for our teams. I work hard to build strong relationships so they know they have my support—alongside their fantastic AMs!

Amy Wright
Area Manager for Costa Coffee in Cornwall and itsu Exeter
Morning:
The first thing I check when I wake up is the Daily Pulse email to review the previous day’s sales and waste. I look for any anomalies and send follow-up questions to my store managers. I always start my day with a big to-do list and work through it as the day progresses. My calendar is planned at least two weeks in advance, so my route is usually set. That said, plans can change quickly if an issue arises in another store. Store visits are scheduled based on the current trading period—this determines which type of walkthrough I complete—and any ongoing HR matters in the area. On some days, I can visit up to six stores, depending on their locations and the tasks lined up.
Midday:
There’s usually no time for lunch, as I’m often driving between stores. Throughout the day, I also have ad-hoc calls with the support team to discuss how we can improve key metrics like NPS, learning, and marketing.
Afternoon:
I get the greatest satisfaction from ticking everything off my to-do list, but occasionally tasks roll over to the next day. In the evening, I check the Teams calls scheduled for the following day and prepare any necessary pre-work. I also make sure my task list is ready to go. Before finishing up, I reply to any WhatsApp messages I haven’t had the chance to respond to during the day.

Why We Love Working at Scoffs
Working as a Store Manager at Costa Coffee under Scoffs Group has been incredibly rewarding. The company's commitment to excellence and team development has inspired me to lead with passion and deliver exceptional results.
Together with my team, we've created a welcoming environment that encourages customers to return for more. The drive and team spirit of my store is a merit to the values of this fantastic organisation.
Currently 3 years in Scoffs Group, I have grown from starting out as a Barista working my way up to a Store Manager. Scoffs Group have helped me to gain the skills and confidence to progress in my career here and this has allowed me to thrive.
In my store I push for fun and success from getting involved with fun Costa Foundation themed days to achieving high Costa Check scores. My biggest achievement so far is winning Assistant Manager of the Year in 2024. I look forward to seeing what the future hold for me at Scoffs.

Since joining Scoffs 11 years ago, I have developed from a part time barista into a fully trained Store manager opening our first Scoffs Group Drive Thru store.
I have developed and gained so many skills that i can only thank the company for!
I have been working at Scoffs for over 9 years now, starting as a barista at 19 years old and working my way up to management, something I never thought I would get up to.
The company has helped me build my confidence and I have felt fully supported in every role I have been a part of it in and I am grateful that Scoffs has given me the chance to build my career
I joined Scoffs in November 2023 as a Store Manager in Petersfield, after a short time in the company the senior management team saw my experience and skill set and I was given the opportunity to progress into the Operations Manager Designate role.
This has allowed me to work and help others in-stores and challenge myself, I'm looking forward to see where my next challenge takes me in Scoffs.
I have been with Scoffs for over 7 years, starting as a Barista, then Barista Maestro to now my current role which has got me to a position where I'm fulfilled with being able to share my ideas, learn new skills and adapt further with my knowledge.
With the experience I have had throughout the years, I have gained more confidence, gratitude and have a wonderful supporting system. Being a creative thinker has made me be able to share my ideas with the team, use my photography and videography skills for fun projects and to challenge myself.
I am looking forward to learn and adapt further in my role.
I had only been with Costa less then a year before Scoffs took over and I have enjoyed every part of it. I have had the chance to work in 3 different stores as store Manager and I feel I have finally found the store that's perfect for me.
am looking forward to the future with Scoffs and I am hoping to one day take the next step up in my career 😁

After being a regular daily Customer for 7 years, I decided to have a career change and applied for a Barista Mestro position in september 2024.
I never knew that there was so much love that went into making Coffee! After watching myself grow to understand the brand, when Manager position became available in December, I decided to apply.
I was promoted to Manager in Decemeber. I was so proud of myself and the recogiion that Scoffs shows to employees. They give them a chance to grow and excel!
I have worked for Costa for 15 years. Since Scoffs group taking over Premiere I have seen the company grow and only move forward. I believe that scoffs have created culture and growth opportunities for all employees, it is a pleasure to work for a company with great values, achievements and support.
I am very excited to be a part of scoffs Group and see what the future holds.
Since joining Scoffs in 2022 my skills in management has greatly increased and it's always positive meeting the senior leadership team, I feel I get the help I need to strive even more.
Scoffs make campaigns fun with certain incentives and competitions. I'm looking forwards to working another year at Scoffs. A special shout out to Paul Turner, Dawn Wallbridge and Lisa Jarrold for having a great sense of humour!
Scoffs brought me in back in 2023 to navigate and build a new communications system, where I was told that boldness and proactivity were the biggest strengths I could bring.
In that time I have had many experiences that have given me insight into the ways of Scoffs and how I count as a person rather than a number.
The personality of the company has encouraged me to drive myself further professionally, testing and encouraging sides I didn't know I had.
